The Fundamentals of Dialogue

Page history last edited by PBworks 17 years, 2 months ago

For this assignment, you'll need to download and install an IM (instant messenger) client, so that you have a "chat" to post, link to other posts, and to write about.

Rule of Three

(1) Address your interlocutor where they are. This does not mean you should talk "down" to them or "up" to them, although this might happen. If it does, let it go, and forge another connection. (2) Listen with eyes and ears. (3) Be generous with your interpretation of premises. At the same time, all each other to query premises.

Consider: how does dialogue differ from debate?

Blog that dialogue

IM scripts, meeting minutes, and brainstorm session notes can be useful for invention - invention being that part of the writing process when you are creating your vision of the topic and the argument. Engage in a dialogue with a classmate on the following question and topic: "What paper topic or research problem would be cool and interesting to tackle for a FinalProject?" Share ideas and information, ask questions. Using ImChat and this auxillary prompt as your guide, make contact with peers and post the dynamic script (or a selection of script) to our wiki.
