My Portfolio...My Narrative Experience

I did not know what to write about when I sat down. I had a few ideas I wanted to play with, but the one I choose gave me the most to write with and play with. I was not a hundred percent happy with my originalNarrative Page. Though I took my time to write, it seemed to be missing something I could not place, it just seemed blah. I wanted it to be a detailed experience, a serious piece, now looking at it, I want it to be a lighter. With a bit more spunk:

The first to narrate my story was Afram.I like his style of writing very much. He managed to remove a lot of my fluff to get right to the story. When I reread his version it seemed streamlined and read a little easier. I did not apply much of his suggestion because it was not the direction I had in mind (i tend to like fluff). But regardless, I like what he did. aframremixregina

John Siewert was next to retell my story. I have to confess, I LOVED what he did. He gave me exactly what I had been looking for, but could not find. He found another angle to speak from that had never occured to me. He also used coding that I loved, so I took it as well. His remix was one that I pulled most of my revision from.JS - Regina Narrative Remix

Farrah was next to make a remix. I am glad she did. She basically adjust some sentence structure, sentence placement and spelling/grammer errors (I rely heavily on a spell checker heheh). I did try to use her suggestions because I had been trying so hard to get my thoughts on the screen that I did not take enough time to make everything pretty, so-to-speak. Farrah edits Regina

Last but definitely not least, cameAustin's Edit. This was again, completely out of what I had envisioned, and I got the biggest kick out it.Austin showed me yet another story I had not seen. I did not apply it to my revisions because it was a little too left side for me, but I enjoyed reading it, seeing what he saw.

I enjoyed this type of peer editing of my work. It goes along the way of 'two minds are better than one.' Each person showed me something I was not able to see when I was in the thick of it. I found it very helpful, at times comical, to see others' ideas. I was surprised that I was not so attached to my work that I minded their adjustments. I hope we attempt this again. I not only enjoyed reading their remix of me, but their narratives as well. Here are my three remixes:

My first was Austin. I was not sure when I started reading his, what I could do to improve it. I made some grammatical adjustments and sentence structure. My feeling was to change the ending to show some more excitement on his part, I liked his emotion through the entire piece. Regina edits Austin

I remixed Farrah next. I found her story very moving, and unique. I was tentative to adjust the narrative because of its meaning, so mostly I did sentence structure, spelling and grammatics. I also moved some sentences to make it flow a little easier in some places. Regina edits Farrah

Danielle was last. I had a great time reading her clip. It was as if reading a personal anecdote, as well as being funny and having some creative twists. I was more than impressed and shy to change it. Mainly for her, I again tried to move some sentences and change grammatics to help the flow. R edits D

With the experience I had here, and the few other narratives I read, I am so impressed by the writing skills in the class and the creativity. I honestly found it difficult to critique others because of how strongly I felt toward their projects.
